How to Choose the Best Solar Installer in Orange County (2026)
2026 checklist for hiring an OC solar installer: CSLB, itemized quotes, NEM 3 design, and the companies that actually rank in Google.
The 2026 Orange County solar shortlist
If you search “solar installer Orange County” or “solar panel installation near me,” Google’s Local Services Ads and organic results are dominated by the same pattern: license in the open, reviews you can click, itemized quotes, and NEM 3 math. We crawled those pages. Use this checklist, then get two or three bids—including a Solar Topper estimate.

OC Solar, Infinity Solar, and Progressive Energy put the license number in the hero and footer. Confirm C-46 (solar) or C-10 (electrical) on cslb.ca.gov. Solar Topper is a licensed C-46 contractor based in Lake Forest—not a sales office that farms the install to a third crew you never meet.

Forme Solar publishes per-watt packages. Infinity publishes system-size ranges. OC Solar refuses flyer prices and quotes line items. Ask for cash price vs financed price, exact panel and inverter models, and what a tile lift or main-panel upgrade costs. Loans can hide dealer fees.

Most of Orange County is Southern California Edison under NEM 3.0. Anaheim is Anaheim Public Utilities. City of Riverside is RPU. Rosemead is LADWP. A proposal that pastes Edison export credits onto APU is the wrong installer. See our SCE solar guide and Orange County solar page.
4. Design for NEM 3 — not NEM 2 nostalgia
Midday export is worth much less than the 4–9 PM peak. Size for self-consumption. A battery can help with backup or evening load—not as a default upsell. Solar Topper does not offer Tesla products at this time. Grid-tied panels alone shut off in an outage.
5. Read reviews on more than one site
Winners link Google, Yelp, BBB, and EnergySage. Volume helps (hundreds of reviews), but read recent install and service comments. Solar Topper is 4.9★ on Google. Compare the live listings the day you sign—not a screenshot from a landing page.
6. Ask who is on the roof after PTO
In-house vs subcontracted matters when something breaks. Local Services Ads skew toward repair and “ready now” jobs. If you need solar repair or a lift for a new roof, hire the crew that still answers the phone.
7. Get a second bid
The companies you will see in Google include OC Solar (Irvine), Infinity Solar (Orange), G C Electric Solar, Forme Solar, Sunergy (also Lake Forest), and national brands. Use them as price and equipment benchmarks. Then decide on license, utility accuracy, and who owns the warranty.
Start with the solar calculator or request a free solar quote from a Lake Forest advisor. We do not sell your lead.
